Recommended Reads: Sing, Unburied, Sing

I couldn't resist picking up Jesmyn Ward's Sing, Unburied, Sing, both because it is a ghost story and because it happens to be this year's "Williams Reads" book, which means free copies are given out to incoming freshmen at Williams College so that they have the chance to read the book over the summer in preparation for conversations on campus. Rich with content and lyricism, I was particularly impressed by the ending. It is no easy feat to include two ghosts in one narrative, and the importance of all the characters to the larger world of the story was made clear by the end. If you want an immersive story that shines light onto one family's past and present (which is also the past and present of this country), I highly recommend Sing, Unburied, Sing.
